Back to the Roots in An Giang: TDTU Business Administration Students Connect with History, Culture and Spread Love to Children
From September 18 to 20, 2026, students of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) – Ton Duc Thang University embarked on an experiential learning journey in An Giang, combining the discovery of local historical and cultural heritage with a Mid-Autumn Festival gift-giving programme for children. The trip offered hands-on, real-world experiences that helped nurture a strong sense of civic responsibility and a spirit of sharing among learners.
Part of the FBA’s series of activities in An Giang under the “Trung thu Cho em 2026” (Mid-Autumn for the Children 2026) campaign, the programme was designed around a community-engaged learning approach. By exploring historical sites first-hand, learning about local history, culture and daily life, and taking part in community activities, students were able to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world practice, sharpen their skills and deepen their awareness of the role and responsibility learners bear towards the community.
On September 18, 2026, the FBA delegation paid tribute at the Ba Chuc Tomb Memorial, which preserves the evidence of the 1978 Ba Chuc massacre committed by Khmer Rouge forces against local residents. In a solemn atmosphere, students offered incense and listened to accounts of the loss and suffering endured by the people of Ba Chuc. The visit gave students a deeper understanding of a painful chapter in the nation’s history, reinforcing their appreciation for the value of peace and the life they enjoy today.

On the same day, the delegation presented 200 gifts to young children at Hoa Mai Kindergarten, bringing joy and meaningful encouragement to the little ones ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The activity also helped spread the spirit of sharing, community care and social responsibility among FBA students.

On the morning of September 19, 2026, FBA students visited Tra Su Cajuput Forest, one of the most iconic flooded cajuput forest ecosystems in the Mekong Delta. Immersed in the natural landscape, students observed the region’s distinctive ecosystem up close, gaining a clearer understanding of the value of natural resources and the vital role of conservation and sustainable development in local tourism and the economy.

In the afternoon, the delegation arrived at Tu Te Communal House to attend and learn about the Offering Ceremony in honour of Marshal Le Van Duyet (Duc Ta Quan Quan Cong). The event gave students a first-hand encounter with traditional rituals, introducing them to the cultural and spiritual values that continue to be cherished in local community life, while broadening their perspective on the links between culture, community and local development.

On the morning of September 20, 2026, the FBA delegation visited the President Ton Duc Thang Memorial Site on Ong Ho Islet, My Hoa Hung Commune, An Giang Province – the hometown of President Ton Duc Thang, the revered leader whose name Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) is proud to bear. There, the delegation offered incense, toured the wooden stilt house where “Uncle Ton” once lived, and listened to stories about his life and career. The visit gave students a deeper insight into President Ton Duc Thang’s legacy, character and contributions, strengthening their pride in the university that bears his name and their awareness of the responsibility TDTU learners share in preserving and promoting these noble values.
As the journey drew to a close, each destination had offered students a unique perspective and a distinct layer of value – from history, culture and beliefs to ecology and community life. Field-based learning not only helps students connect classroom knowledge with the local socio-economic and cultural context, but also creates opportunities for them to observe, experience and reflect on real-world issues. In doing so, the journey helped cultivate a sustainable development mindset, a sense of social responsibility and adaptability – essential qualities for the next generation of future managers and business leaders.
