Blue Ocean Strategy Workshop: Expanding Strategic Thinking and Creating Differentiated Value

On October 12, 2026, the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), organized an Orientation Day in the morning for students enrolled in the 2+2 joint-degree program in Business Administration with the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE), followed by a “Blue Ocean Strategy” workshop in the afternoon. These activities enhanced students’ international learning experiences and fostered strategic thinking.

In the morning, FBA, TDTU, in collaboration with Dr. Karel Pernica, Lecturer in the Department of Strategy at VŠE, Czech Republic, organized an Orientation Day for students enrolled in the 2+2 joint-degree program in Business Administration between TDTU and VŠE. The session provided an overview of VŠE’s academic programs, educational environment, and student life, helping students prepare their knowledge, skills, and mindset during their first two years at TDTU before progressing to the second phase of their studies at VŠE in Prague.

In the afternoon, FBA continued its academic activities by hosting a workshop on “Blue Ocean Strategy,” led by Dr. Karel Pernica. The workshop provided students with an opportunity to explore strategic thinking approaches and market analysis tools through academic exchange with an international lecturer.

In an increasingly competitive business environment, companies must not only strengthen their competitive capabilities but also proactively seek new ways to create differentiated value. Blue Ocean Strategy offers an approach that focuses on creating new market spaces rather than competing directly in existing markets.

Through the workshop, students explored the core principles of Blue Ocean Strategy and the concept of Value Innovation. In addition, tools such as the Strategy Canvas and the Four Actions Framework introduced a systematic approach to analyzing competitive factors, identifying market opportunities, and developing new sources of value.

Engaging with these concepts and tools helps students connect their academic knowledge with real-world business challenges while developing analytical thinking and the ability to examine markets from multiple perspectives. The workshop thus enriched students’ practice-oriented learning experiences and expanded opportunities for academic exchange in an international educational environment.

The workshop was also part of the broader academic collaboration between TDTU and VŠE under the 2+2 Business Administration joint-degree program. This series of activities helps students explore international learning environments, teaching methodologies, and the academic pathway at VŠE in Prague.

Beyond its academic value, the organization of educational activities involving international partners reflects the Faculty of Business Administration’s ongoing efforts to expand learning opportunities, strengthen academic connections, and enable students to engage with diverse perspectives in business administration.
