COLLOQUIUM: “CLOSING THE GAP: WHERE AI AMBITION MEETS BUSINESS REALITIES”

On the afternoon of March 13, 2026, the Faculty of Business Administration at Ton Duc Thang University successfully organized a specialized seminar titled “Closing the Gap: When AI Ambition Meets Business Realities.” The event was one of the activities in the series celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Business Administration, and also served as a notable academic initiative aimed at promoting the internationalization of education and updating emerging knowledge trends in the context of digital transformation and the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in business management.

The program was honored to welcome and host a presentation by Perry Hobson, the patron professor of the Faculty of Business Administration, who is currently affiliated with Bond University (Australia). He is a distinguished scholar with extensive experience in the fields of management, tourism, and innovation.

Representing the Faculty of Business Administration at Ton Duc Thang University, the seminar was attended by:

  • Prof. Dr. Phạm Thị Minh Lý – Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration;
  • Phùng Minh Tuấn – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration;
  • A. Nguyễn Thị Hồng Hạnh – Assistant to the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration;
  • Together with lecturers from the Faculty of Business Administration.

The event also welcomed numerous experts and representatives from organizations and businesses, including MoMo Vietnam, VietGuys Mobile Marketing Solutions, BLS Homestay, and OPL Logistics, along with many business representatives, MBA students, and undergraduate students interested in technology and business management.

Continuing the series of academic discussions on artificial intelligence in business, particularly following last year’s seminar titled “Applied AI and its Application in Service Experience,” this year’s event further expanded the conversation on the role of AI in narrowing the gap between organizations’ technological ambitions and their ability to implement such innovations in practice.

During the keynote presentation, Professor Perry Hobson provided an in-depth analysis of the gap between organizations’ ambitions to adopt artificial intelligence and the realities of implementing it in practice. The lecture addressed several key topics, including digital transformation strategies, leadership capabilities in the AI era, the integration of artificial intelligence with human resources, as well as challenges related to data governance, ethical considerations, and risk management in AI implementation within business operations.

In addition to theoretical insights, the speaker also shared practical examples from organizations that have successfully transformed their AI strategies into tangible business value. These examples provided valuable perspectives for students on how businesses can prepare their data infrastructure, develop appropriate human resources, and design effective and sustainable AI implementation roadmaps.

The discussion and Q&A session was lively and engaging, with many questions raised by students and industry representatives. Topics included essential skills required for the workforce in the AI era, balancing automation with the human element in service industries, and ethical challenges associated with the application of artificial intelligence.

The seminar provided valuable academic and practical perspectives, helping students enhance their understanding of the role of technology in modern business management. At the same time, the event reaffirmed the Faculty of Business Administration at Ton Duc Thang University’s commitment to strengthening international engagement, fostering collaboration with industry partners, and creating a dynamic learning environment that keeps students updated with emerging global trends.
