On May 25, 2020, the Faculty of Business Administration held a Journal Club session in which the PhD candidate-Nguyen Thanh Nhan presented a study entitled: “A review and typology of circular economy business model patterns”. The research examined “circular economy business models” (CEBMs) supported by the circular economy (CE) theory. The paper was written by Florian Ludeke-Freund, Stefan Gold & Nancy MP Bocken in 2019.
The CE requires companies to rethink their supply chains and business models. Several frameworks found in the academic and practitioner literature propose circular economy business models (CEBMs) to redefine how companies create value while adhering to CE principles. The morphological analysis is quite adept at new concept to qualitative analysis. The paper provides a good guideline for managers to conduct morphological analysis as their competitive analysis. The result summarized six characteristics of business models such as: reuse and redistribution; refurbishment and remanufacturing; recycling; cascading and repurposing; and organic feedstock business model patterns. Faculty members also discussed about different strategies to support the development of these CEBMs in the future.
