Youth Capacity-Building Training and Model APEC 2023: Team Vietnam Was Listed in TOP 3 Presentations of The Symposium

From July 6 to July 7, 2023, "Youth Capacity-Building Training and Model APEC 2023" was held in Taipei, Taiwan at National Taipei Tech University (NTUT), also known as Taipei Technology (Taipei Tech).

The program is organized within the framework of the APEC Education Development & Innovation Institute (APEC), Institute of Innovation and Education Development) (APEC IIED), a project under NTUT and authorized by Taiwan's Ministry of Education. The aim of the Institute is to raise awareness and understanding of the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum through workshops and practical learning in a model APEC meeting.

Youth representatives from 14 member economies in the Asia-Pacific region were invited to participate in the 2-day event.  In total there are 58 participants, 36 Taiwanese representatives and 22 international students from other member economies. Representing the Vietnam team, Ton Duc Thang University nominated Ms. Pham Nguyen Thanh Huong, K25 student from Bachelor of Marketing program.



The program started with the speeches of delegates and guests from NTUT and Taiwan's Ministry of Education. Professor Thomas C. K. Yang, Vice Rector of NTUT, welcomed all the guests and youth representatives to the program and shared more about the goals of the APEC Model program. Following Professor Yang's speech, Dr. Nicole Yen-Yi Lee, Director General of the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, shared Taiwan's commitment to capacity development and education in the region through investment and initiative proposals at the APEC forum.


On the 2nd day of the program, the model APEC was officially held with the participation of all delegates from 14 member economies. The Vietnamese delegation re-emphasized Vietnam's enthusiasm for the APEC mission since becoming a member and its commitment to the mission of building an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific region. In addition, Vietnam confirmed its intention to contribute to the APEC Education Strategy 2016-2030 with the goals of building capacity, increasing employment opportunities and promoting innovation.


The sample APEC program includes 3-minute presentations by each member economy on their designated project concept report. The goal is to share each member economy's ideas for projects to meet the goals of the APEC HRDWG and the APEC EDNET. After that, there will be a 1-minute Q&A session with representatives of other economies.

The project concept report of the Vietnamese delegation entitled "APEC Symposium on Developing New Leadership) Capabilities in Response to the Work Evolution in The Digital Age", a project proposed by the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, in 2020. The project will be a 2-day symposium with participants from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss new leadership skills required in the context of Industry 4.0. It involves training entrepreneurs in Vietnam and the region with the leadership skills needed to better integrate technology into their businesses. In addition, the program has a special emphasis on how to increase the participation of women in the workforce and in the startup space.

After the presentation of member economies, Professor Yang shared the comments on behalf of the organizers and delegations and announced TOP 3 Presentations were Singapore - Vietnam - USA teams.
